About The Lodge

The Lodge at The French Village is nestled in a wide opening in the Mangatarere Valley.

Alongside flows the Mangatarere River and you can take a scenic walk from The Lodge into the Tararua Forest Park.

The Lodge has a large covered courtyard which is perfect for BBQ's and relaxing outdoors, regardless of the weather. Indoors there is a roomy country kitchen which flows into the living area. A woodburner keeps The Lodge cosy and warm in winter.

3 Bedrooms, 2 with bunks and 1 with bunks and a queen bed make up the accommodation. There are also 2 large bathrooms and 3 toilets.

Upstairs is a spacious room for entertaining, conferences or retreats, wedding receptions, or just for fun.

On top of all of this are extensive views of native bush and at night the sky takes on an entirely new dimension. On a clear night the stars are simply breathtaking.

Big Experiences, Small Footprint

The Lodge is off the grid, so solar panels and a small hydro plant generate the power. There is a generator to boost the batteries if necessary. No connectivity may be novel for many, and is a great excuse to look away from the screen and connect with your surroundings. A landline is available.

We recycle and have a robust compost system as well as a land based waste water system. We use and supply eco based cleaners, soaps, detergents, shampoo and conditioner.

Fresh culinary herbs are available on request and water cress is plentiful in the spring fed streams. Water for drinking and cooking is also from a spring, tested regularly, and is beautiful to the palate.
